Matthew 5:3-12

3 “Blessed are the poor in spirit, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

4 “Blessed are those who mourn, for they shall be comforted.

5 “Blessed are the gentle, for they shall inherit the earth.

6 “Blessed are those who hunger and thirst for righteousness, for they shall be satisfied.

7 “Blessed are the merciful, for they shall receive mercy.

8 “Blessed are the pure in heart, for they shall see God.

9 “Blessed are the peacemakers, for they shall be called sons of God.

10 “Blessed are those who have been persecuted for the sake of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

11 “Blessed are you when people insult you and persecute you, and falsely say all kinds of evil against you because of Me.

12 Rejoice and be glad, for your reward in heaven is great; for in the same way they persecuted the prophets who were before you.

I have had a difficult time with the ‘three days and three nights’ that Jesus spoke about with the church’s ‘reconciliation’ of this phrase.  In fact, it was the first ‘warning signal’ to me when I was a child , that there was ‘something’ wrong within the Roman Catholic Church, to which my parents and our family belonged.  To me, it doesn’t work.  Perhaps this article will shed some light ….. (although upon observation of it .... I do not find it completely satisfactory.  Please feel free to comment.)

How to deal with Matthew 12:40?

Kevin Gyllenberg

May 4, 2016

(Matthew 12:38-42) [38] Then certain of the scribes and of the Pharisees answered, saying, Master, we would see a sign from thee. [39] But he answered and said unto them, An evil and adulterous generation seeketh after a sign; and there shall no sign be given to it, but the sign of the prophet Jonas: [40] For as Jonas was three days and three nights in the whale’s belly; so shall the Son of man be three days and three nights in the heart of the earth. [41] The men of Nineveh shall rise in judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: because they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here. [42] The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for she came from the uttermost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here.

One methodis called “Inclusive Reckoning”. Here we accept that when counting days in New Testament times, any part of a day was counted as a whole day. The Romans of the time counted inclusively. The day after tomorrow was three days, including today. Using this method, where it says after three days, or on the third day, if Yeshua was put to death on Friday and rose on Sunday, it was considered three days. Among scripture that could support this could be Matthew 20:1-16 (The Parable of the “Workers in the Vineyard”). There are ten instances of “on the third day”, five instances of “in three days” and two instances of “after three days” in the New Testament scriptures. There is only Matthew 12:40 that uses the phrase “three days and three nights”. If we are to hold a literal “three days and three nights” then the math does not work. Yeshua died Friday before sundown counted as one day. Remained in the tomb Saturday, second day, but was raised from the dead Sunday morning before the sun rose.

(John 20:1)The first day of the week cometh Mary Magdalene early, when it was yet dark, unto the sepulchre, and seeth the stone taken away from the sepulchre.

Counting Friday night and Saturday night equals only two nights.

The next methodof reconciling this verse is to say that the “Heart of the Earth” is not necessarily the tomb but is when Yeshua is outside the protection of the Father or subject to the powers of this world. When He was not subject to this world, He could evade crowds who would have stoned Him. Some examples:

(John 8:59) Then took they up stones to cast at him: but Jesus hid himself, and went out of the temple, going through the midst of them, and so passed by.

(Luke 4:29-30) [29] And rose up, and thrust him out of the city, and led him unto the brow of the hill whereon their city was built, that they might cast him down headlong. [30] But he passing through the midst of them went his way,

But in the Garden of Gethsemane He relinquished that protection.

(Matthew 26:52-53) [52] Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword. [53] Thinkest thou that I cannot now pray to my Father, and he shall presently give me more than twelve legions of angels?

Another methodis to say that Yeshua was crucified on Wednesday. Here is how this works. There are two years in the range of the possible crucifixion dates that Passover falls on a Wednesday night. Holidays such as Passover are also called “sabbaths in the scriptures”. So if Yeshua was crucified on Wednesday before sundown, we have Thursday, Friday and Saturday in the “Heart of the Earth”. Yeshua died before the Shabbat (Passover) came in. If He had not, the centurions would have made sure He did as they did with the convicts next to Him. Because the Shabbat was so imminent, they were not able to bury Yeshua. He was put in a rich man’s tomb temporarily. The women came to the tomb early on the first day of the week prepared to properly anoint Him for burial. The shortcomings of this method are that:

1) You would not go into a tomb four days after putting a dead body in there. As Martha said to Yeshua:

(John 11:39) Jesus said, Take ye away the stone. Martha, the sister of him that was dead, saith unto him, Lord, by this time he stinketh: for he hath been dead four days.

2) If Thursday was Passover and Saturday was the Shabbat, why not go on Friday?

The last methodI will discuss is called interpolation. Basically it says that that verse was added later by scribes. If you take out the verse, then the passage makes sense. The sign of Jonas was that at his preaching, the people repented, in this case Ninevites who were gentiles. Reinforced by the next verse about the Queen of Sheba, also a gentile. Now the passage jives with Luke’s account which does not mention Jonas in the whale or Yeshua in the grave:

(Luke 11:29-32) [29] And when the people were gathered thick together, he began to say, This is an evil generation: they seek a sign; and there shall no sign be given it, but the sign of Jonas the prophet. [30] For as Jonas was a sign unto the Ninevites, so shall also the Son of man be to this generation. [31] The queen of the south shall rise up in the judgment with the men of this generation, and condemn them: for she came from the utmost parts of the earth to hear the wisdom of Solomon; and, behold, a greater than Solomon is here. [32] The men of Nineve shall rise up in the judgment with this generation, and shall condemn it: for they repented at the preaching of Jonas; and, behold, a greater than Jonas is here.

Matthew 12:40 has sometimes been regarded as a post-Matthean Interpolation by a number of scholars even though no ancient text is missing the verse. The only hint to it being a later addition is that Justin Martyr quotes the passage in Dialogue with Trypho 107:1-1 without the reference to 12:40.

These methodsof dealing with Matthew 12:40 are all great for an enjoyable discussion. Anyone holding any of these views are entitled to their opinion. They are all valid arguments that cannot be rejected outright. Whatever position you hold, do the research and know why you hold to that persuasion.

People want to keep blaming the Lord for the idolatrous festival commonly called Christmas, by saying Jesus is the reason for the season. The reality is that when when discovers just how pagan everything is about "Christmas" really is, one realizes just how blasphemous such a statement really is.

The season we now call Christmas was well known and celebrated in the Roman and otherwise pagan world prior to the birth of Christ and can't even be historically substantiated to have been adopted until the mid 300s AD. After Constantine's elleged conversion to Christianity where Roman authorities infiltrated Christianity as the state and began steering the religion away from it's Hebrew biblical roots towards the ways of the Romans and the pagans.
Rome had succeeded, through taking over the religion of the followers of the Lord, in doing what they, through every prior conceivable attempt they made, could never do before, control the growth and direction of the biggest threat to Rome's power and authority, the Christian faith. In their subsequent acts of government over the religion of the Christians, Rome's new "ecumenical" strategy (merging of world religions under the power of Rome) would see the outlawing of the Sabbath, the Feasts of the Lord and the baptising of Roman and pagan idolatrous festivals as "catholic" (universal) holidays. Secular, catholic, and protestant histories recognize these facts, yet Christians persist in making themselves look like incredible fools to any non-believer who has done any study on the topic. (http://www.historytoday.com/matt-salusbury/did-romans-invent-christmas)
Christians who continue to indulge in the delicacies of Babylon blacken the name of the Lord, they don't as they like to claim honor Him by holding fast to these long proven pagan festivals, papering them with the name of our Lord.
For all the nations have drunk of the wine of the passion of her immorality, and the kings of the earth have committed acts of immorality with her, and the merchants of the earth have become rich by the wealth of her sensuality." I heard another voice from heaven, saying, "Come out of her, my people, so that you will not participate in her sins and receive of her plagues; for her sins have piled up as high as heaven, and God has remembered her iniquities.Rev 18:3‭-‬5 NASB
Do not be bound together with unbelievers; for what partnership have righteousness and lawlessness, or what fellowship has light with darkness? Or what harmony has Christ with Belial, or what has a believer in common with an unbeliever? Or what agreement has the temple of God with idols? For we are the temple of the living God; just as God said, "I will dwell in them and walk among them ; and I will be their God, and they shall be my people . "Therefore, come out from their midst and be separate ," says the Lord. " and do not touch what is unclean ; And I will welcome you. "And I will be a father to you, And you shall be sons and daughters to Me," Says the Lord Almighty.2 Co 6:14‭-‬18 NASB
Do not love the world nor the things in the world. If anyone loves the world, the love of the Father is not in him. For all that is in the world, the lust of the flesh and the lust of the eyes and the boastful pride of life, is not from the Father, but is from the world. The world is passing away, and also its lusts; but the one who does the will of God lives forever.1 Jn 2:15‭-‬17 NASB

I just started reading about the oil importance in the world and the prophetic words in the Bible about new discoveries in Israel. Some business men are so convinced of the words above that several expeditions have gone on to search & dig for oil. I understand that in 2011 a major finding was in Golan Heights which is a disputed land by the Syrians. Just starting, but I have looked up Golan Heights map and the land that Asher's foot is to be dipped in oil. So much to learn, that it's hard for me to wrap my head around. Has anyone here done a similar study. I don't want it to be too in depth but a good foundation would be great. Thoughts anyone?

1 Chronicles 16:11 Seek the LORD (Yeshua) and His strength; Seek His face continually.

Job 5:8-9 “If I were you, I would seek God (Yeshua); I would make my plea to Him. 9For God does great deeds beyond investigation, wonders beyond all reckoning.

Psalm 63:1 O God, You are my God; Early will I seek You; My soul thirsts for You; My flesh longs for You In a dry and thirsty land Where there is no water.

Psalm 119:2 How happy are those who observe His (Yeshua’s) instruction, who seek Him wholeheartedly!

Proverbs 8:17 (Yeshua)- I love those who love me, And those who seek me diligently will find me.

Proverbs 28:5 Evil people don’t understand justice, but those who seek Adonai understand everything.

Isaiah 55:6-7 Seek Adonai Yeshua) while He is available, call on Him while He is still nearby.

 Let the wicked person abandon his way and the evil person his thoughts; let him return to Adonai (Yeshua), and He will have mercy on him; let him return to our God (Yeshua), for He will freely forgive.

Jeremiah 29:12-14When you call to me and pray to me, I will listen to you. 13When you seek me, you will find me, provided you seek for me wholeheartedly; 14and I will let you find me,’ says Adonai (Yeshua).

Matthew 6:33 But seek first the kingdom of God (Yeshua) and His righteousness, and all these things shall be added to you.

Hebrews 11:6 But without faith it is impossible to please Him, for he who comes to God (Yeshua) must believe that He is, and that He is a rewarder of them who diligently seek Him.

James 4:8 Draw near to God and He will draw near to you. Cleanse your hands, you sinners; and purify your hearts, you double-minded.

Colossians 3:1-8 If then you were raised with Christ, seek those things which are above, where Christ is, sitting at the right hand of God. 2Set your mind on things above, not on things on the earth. 3For you died, and your life is hidden with Christ in God. 4When Christ who is our life appears, then you also will appear with Him in glory. Therefore put to death your members which are on the earth: fornication, uncleanness, passion, evil desire, and covetousness, which is idolatry. Because of these things the wrath of God is coming upon the sons of disobedience, in which you yourselves once walked when you lived in them. But now you yourselves are to put off all these: anger, wrath, malice, blasphemy, filthy language out of your mouth. Are you too busy with the mundane things of this world? You can get easily distracted by unimportant things, having your priorities out of order and it saps your energy and time, losing your passion for Yeshua (Jesus). Who is your God?

Those who profess to know Yeshua(Jesus) need to examine themselves by asking : Am I diligently seeking Yeshua(Jesus) with my heart and soul ? Or do I go through life largely consumed with secular pursuits and worldly entertainment, while repentance, obedience, prayer, fervent love for Yeshua(Jesus) and studying His Word, have little place in my life, affections, and time?

PLEASE!! Diligently, and Earnestly Seek Him, turning away from your sins, being obedient to His Word with your life , completely submitting to His authority,and anything that you have put in His place,repent!! Yeshua must be the Only God of your life, He will not share you with worthless idols.

I recently saw a video with some young people in Israel talking to people on the street about Yeshua … who He is … asking if the person was familiar with the Name or Who He is….  Sadly, most people didn’t know who Yeshua is.

Unfortunately, the Roman Catholic Church made so many changes from the pure gospel.  They have introduced many pagan ideas into the ‘Church’ …. many of which remain to this day in all denominations.  No wonder the Jewish people can’t relate!!

The Church celebrates Christmas and Easter …..  attaching Jesus’ name to them …. making them ‘Christian’!  But they are PAGAN!  The Christmas tree, exchanging gifts, the Easter bunny and Easter eggs…. Pure paganism!  But Christians believe the lie …. They don’t KNOW it’s a lie …. And perhaps the preachers don’t know either – for that is what they are taught!

I explain it all in detail in my book, ‘GRAFTED IN the Jewish Olive Tree’.  Christians need to know the TRUTH.

Romans 1:24-25 - Therefore God also gave them up to uncleanness, in the lust of their hearts …. Who exchanged the truth of God for the lie, and worshiped and served the creature rather than the Creator, who is blessed forever, Amen.

People love their Christmas and Easter celebrations ….. after I learned the truth about them, I really have a hard time with them.  My married kids still celebrate and decorate …. And I go to spend time with them …. But it is definitely more difficult than it used to be (before I became Messianic and discovered what the Bible really says about these things.)!!

Jeremiah 7:18 talks about the Queen of heaven.

Growing up in the Catholic Church, we crowned a huge statue of Mary, the mother of Jesus, as the Queen of heaven every year in May.

The Mother/Son idea was known through all the ancient world:

In Babylon – Semiramis and Tammuz

In Egypt - Isis and Osiris

In India – Isi and Iswara

In Asia – Cybele and Deoius

In Pagan Rome – Fortuna and Jupiter-puer

In Greece – Irene and Plutus

Exodus 20:3-6 talks about an image of jealousy, and warns us not to have any other gods or carved images.

Mary isn’t as prominent in Protestant churches as in the Roman Catholic Church, where she seems to be about as important as Jesus!  At least she was when I was a child growing up in it.

For example, in the Rosary, there are five ‘decades’, in each of which there is one Lord’s Prayer and 10 ‘Hail Marys.  Ten prayers to the mother of Jesus, to one Lord’s Prayer.  There is something ‘wrong with this picture’.

Mary doesn’t answer prayer …. Father God answers prayer!

However, just because Protestant denominations don’t put Jesus’ mother Mary on a pedestal as does the Roman Catholic Church, that doesn’t mean all is well in the Protestant camp.

What about Romans 11?

What about the pagan celebrations ‘Christianized’ by the church …. Christmas and Easter?

What does the Bible have to say about these things?

4 Rejoice in the Lord always. Again I will say, rejoice!

5 Let your gentleness be known to all men. The Lord is at hand.

6 Be anxious for nothing, but in everything by prayer and supplication, with thanksgiving, let your requests be made known to God; 7 and the peace of God, which surpasses all understanding, will guard your hearts and minds through Christ Jesus.

8 Finally, brethren, whatever things are true, whatever things are noble, whatever things are just, whatever things are pure, whatever things are lovely, whatever things are of good report, if there is any virtue and if there is anything praiseworthy—meditate on these things. 9 The things which you learned and received and heard and saw in me, these do, and the God of peace will be with you.

Some think that it is haughty or prideful to expose people to the hard truths of scripture. It is not haughty to show people what God has commanded and revealed about His nature and about the judgment that most pastors and teachers will either never tell you or will lie to your face, about what they mean, in order to preserve the weight of their offering plates on Sunday mornings.
If preaching and teaching the truth that can set people free from sin and the wages thereof (death) was haughty and prideful, then it would mean every person who put pen to paper, as led by the Holy Spirit, would be prideful and haughty.
Many people today simply don't want to accept the words of Jesus and the apostles as being true, they would rather believe the lie that allows them to walk sinfully, without repentance, embracing or excusing sin, rather than embracing the truth of God exposed all the way through the scriptures from Genesis to Revelation. Like it or not, the Lord will judge the nations, and each of us, according to His word, and render each one according to their deeds, not according to our feelings.
John 3:19-20And this is the condemnation, that light is come into the world, and men loved darkness rather than light, because their deeds were evil. For every one that doeth evil hateth the light, neither cometh to the light, lest his deeds should be reproved.
John 3:21But he that doeth truth cometh to the light, that his deeds may be made manifest, that they are wrought in God.

Romans 2:4-13
4 Or despisest thou the riches of his goodness and forbearance and longsuffering; not knowing that the goodness of God leadeth thee to repentance?
5 But after thy hardness and impenitent heart treasurest up unto thyself wrath against the day of wrath and revelation of the righteous judgment of God;
6 Who will render to every man according to his deeds:
7 To them who by patient continuance in well doing seek for glory and honour and immortality, eternal life:
8 But unto them that are contentious, and do not obey the truth, but obey unrighteousness, indignation and wrath, 9 Tribulation and anguish, upon every soul of man that doeth evil, of the Jew first, and also of the Gentile;
10 But glory, honour, and peace, to every man that worketh good, to the Jew first, and also to the Gentile:
11 For there is no respect of persons with God.
12 For as many as have sinned without law shall also perish without law: and as many as have sinned in the law shall be judged by the law;
13 (For not the hearers of the law are just before God, but the doers of the law shall be justified.
Romans 8:13For if ye live after the flesh, ye shall die: but if ye through the Spirit do mortify the deeds of the body, ye shall live.
Jude 14-1514 It was also about these men that Enoch, in the seventh generation from Adam, prophesied, saying, “Behold, the Lord came with many thousands of His holy ones, 15 to execute judgment upon all, and to convict all the ungodly of all their ungodly deeds which they have done in an ungodly way, and of all the harsh things which ungodly sinners have spoken against Him.”
2 Corinthians 5:10For we must all appear before the judgment seat of Christ, so that each one may be recompensed for his deeds in the body, according to what he has done, whether good or bad.
1 John 2:29If you know that He is righteous, you know that everyone also who practices righteousness is born of Him.
1 John 3:7Little children, make sure no one deceives you; the one who practices righteousness is righteous, just as He is righteous;
1 John 3:10By this the children of God and the children of the devil are obvious: anyone who does not practice righteousness is not of God, nor the one who does not love his brother.
1 John 2:4The one who says, “I have come to know Him,” and does not keep His commandments, is a liar, and the truth is not in him
Matthew 19:16-24
16 And someone came to Him and said, “Teacher, what good thing shall I do that I may obtain eternal life?”
17 And He said to him, “Why are you asking Me about what is good? There is only One who is good;
but if you wish to enter into life, keep the commandments.”
18 Then he *said to Him, “Which ones?” And Jesus said, “You shall not commit murder; You shall not commit adultery; You shall not steal; You shall not bear false witness; 19 Honor your father and mother; and You shall love your neighbor as yourself.”
20 The young man *said to Him, “All these things I have kept; what am I still lacking?”
21 Jesus said to him, “If you wish to be complete, go and sell your possessions and give to the poor,
and you will have treasure in heaven;
and come, follow Me.”
22 But when the young man heard this statement, he went away grieving; for he was one who owned much property.
23 And Jesus said to His disciples, “Truly I say to you, it is hard for a rich man to enter the kingdom of heaven. 24 Again I say to you, it is easier for a camel to go through the eye of a needle, than for a rich man to enter the kingdom of God.”
Matthew 25:31-4631 “But when the Son of Man comes in His glory, and all the angels with Him, then He will sit on His glorious throne. 32 All the nations will be gathered before Him; and He will separate them from one another, as the shepherd separates the sheep from the goats; 33 and He will put the sheep on His right, and the goats on the left.
34 “Then the King will say to those on His right, ‘Come, you who are blessed of My Father, inherit the kingdom prepared for you from the foundation of the world. 35 For I was hungry, and you gave Me something to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me something to drink; I was a stranger, and you invited Me in; 36 naked, and you clothed Me; I was sick, and you visited Me; I was in prison, and you came to Me.’ 37 Then the righteous will answer Him, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, and feed You, or thirsty, and give You something to drink? 38 And when did we see You a stranger, and invite You in, or naked, and clothe You? 39 When did we see You sick, or in prison, and come to You?’ 40 The King will answer and say to them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did it to one of these brothers of Mine, even the least of them, you did it to Me.’
41 “Then He will also say to those on His left, ‘Depart from Me, accursed ones, into the eternal fire which has been prepared for the devil and his angels; 42 for I was hungry, and you gave Me nothing to eat; I was thirsty, and you gave Me nothing to drink; 43 I was a stranger, and you did not invite Me in; naked, and you did not clothe Me; sick, and in prison, and you did not visit Me.’ 44 Then they themselves also will answer, ‘Lord, when did we see You hungry, or thirsty, or a stranger, or naked, or sick, or in prison, and did not take care of You?’ 45 Then He will answer them, ‘Truly I say to you, to the extent that you did not do it to one of the least of these, you did not do it to Me.’
46 These will go away into eternal punishment, but the righteous into eternal life.”
Romans 6:23For the wages of sin is death, but the free gift of God is eternal life
Christ Jesus our Lord.
John 15:1-111 “I am the true vine, and My Father is the vinedresser.
2 Every branch in Me that does not bear fruit,
He takes away;
and every branch that bears fruit, He prunes it so that it may bear more fruit.
3 You are already clean because of the word which I have spoken to you.
4 Abide in Me, and I in you.
As the branch cannot bear fruit of itself unless it abides in the vine,
so neither can you unless you abide in Me.
5 I am the vine, you are the branches;
he who abides in Me and I in him, he bears much fruit, for apart from Me you can do nothing.
6 If anyone does not abide in Me, he is thrown away as a branch and dries up; and they gather them, and cast them into the fire and they are burned.
7 If you abide in Me, and My words abide in you,
ask whatever you wish, and it will be done for you.
8 My Father is glorified by this, that you bear much fruit,
and so prove to be My disciples.
9 Just as the Father has loved Me, I have also loved you;
abide in My love.
10 If you keep My commandments,
you will abide in My love;
just as I have kept My Father’s commandments and abide in His love.
11 These things I have spoken to you so that My joy may be in you, and that your joy may be made full.
Mark 13:13And ye shall be hated of all men for my name's sake: but he that shall endure unto the end, the same shall be saved.
Romans 11:20-24 (KJV)
20 Well; because of unbelief they were broken off, and thou standest by faith. Be not highminded, but fear:
21 For if God spared not the natural branches, take heed lest he also spare not thee.
22 Behold therefore the goodness and severity of God: on them which fell, severity; but toward thee, goodness, if thou continue in his goodness: otherwise thou also shalt be cut off.
23 And they also, if they abide not still in unbelief, shall be grafted in: for God is able to graft them in again.
24 For if thou wert cut out of the olive tree which is wild by nature, and wert grafted contrary to nature into a good olive tree: how much more shall these, which be the natural branches, be grafted into their own olive tree?
James 2:17 Even so faith, if it hath not works, is dead, being alone.
Galatians 5:16But I say, walk by the Spirit, and you will not carry out the desire of the flesh.
James 1:15Then when lust has conceived, it gives birth to sin; and when sin is accomplished, it brings forth death.
Romans 6:21Therefore what benefit were you then deriving from the things of which you are now ashamed? For the outcome of those things is death.
